Tentative Plans for The 2020 Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival are as follows:
This year is a Northwest Arkansas High School Invitational Meet only (last year’s recipients of funding from Washington, Benton, Madison and Carroll Counties in Arkansas only). There will be no College Races, nor Citizen Open events such as the 5K, 10K or 1 Mile and we are limiting the size of the Team events dramatically as a safety precaution.
As we absorbed the magnitude of the global pandemic over the past few months, we discussed, analyzed and planned out every possible scenario that would enable us to have the Chile Pepper in 2020. We have thought of the safety of every runner, spectator, volunteer, sponsor, vendor and the members of our local community during this process. Based on guidelines from the CDC, the Federal government, state, county and the local authorities of Fayetteville, we examined what a realistic version might look like during Covid-19. Our usual size of 6500 runners and that many spectators is just not feasible for 2020.
We hope to regain our footing in 2021 and create a great atmosphere for Cross Country again like we have for many years!
